Ko Samet maak je klaar!

2,5 week zijn alweer voorbij sinds dat we aangekomen zijn in Pattaya. De tijd zit er al weer op voor ons. Maar voordat we naar het volgende uitkijken zullen we jullie eerst invullen over afgelopen week.

De dag na de laatste blog was een heel bijzondere dag. Ons team was opgesplitst, de helft ging zoals gewoonlijk naar ‘My Fathers House’ om de hele zaterdag met de kinderen te zijn. De andere helft had de kans om naar een sloppenwijkkerk te gaan. In het Thai heet het ‘De kerk waar de harten samenkomen’. Het is een kerk gevestigd midden in een sloppenwijk waar vrijwilligers van het Mercy Center langsgaan met voedselpakketten (iets waar wij de afgelopen dinsdag/donderdag bij geholpen hebben) en zelfs wonen om de mensen te ondersteunen. Ze hadden ons de vrijheid gegeven om zo veel mogelijk toe te voegen aan de dienst. Uiteindelijk hebben we een preek verzorgd, de aanbidding geleid en zondag school voor de kinderen geleid. Het was een lief klein kerkje wat in iemands achtertuin gevestigd was. Ze hadden het bekend gemaakt dat wij zouden komen, dus er waren rond 15 mensen waarvan er ook nog 1/3 niet christelijke mensen. Na al onze invulling aan de kerkdienst was er de mogelijk voor de mensen om te reageren. Er zijn die dag 3 mensen tot geloof gekomen!! Geweldig om mee te maken! Heel serieus hebben de mensen de keuze gemaakt en hebben we voor ze kunnen bidden. God heeft ons die dag echt gebruikt om mensen die twijfelden of hoop nodig hadden even dat extra duwtje in de rug te geven.

Gelukkig is er voor ons ook de mogelijkheid om op te laden. Elke zondag zijn we hier naar de kerk geweest. De Victory Church wordt geleid door Pastor Fred & Dianne die ook het Mercy Center opgezet hebben. Daarnaast hebben we ook elke woensdag de aanbidding en voorbede tijd gevolgd die door de Victory Church wordt georganiseerd. Afgelopen woensdag hebben we zelfs voorbede gedaan voor de stad Pattaya. Het was erg krachtig vooral doordat we het lied zongen ‘Greater things has yet to come in this city’, dit lied is namelijk speciaal geschreven voor Pattaya. Door dit te doen wordt je elke keer bemoedigd hoe belangrijk voorbede is en dat we hiermee een weg vrijmaken voor al het goede werk wat er is.

De afgelopen week hebben we ons veel vermaakt bij ‘My Fathers House’. In de ochtend praktisch werk en wanneer de kinderen thuis komen van school lekker met ze spelen of helpen met hun huiswerk. Heerlijk om ze te zien spelen en dat dit echt hun thuis voor ze is.

Zaterdag was onze laatste dag in ‘My Fathers House’, dus daar hebben we ook echt een feest van gemaakt. We hadden het thema ‘A Fathers Love’ met daarbij knutselwerkjes, een lekkere break tussendoor, clowning, gezicht verven, Bijbelverhaal van de verloren zoon met als klapper een festijn van spelletjes wat ze af konden gaan per station. Stoelendans, hinkelbaan (zelf geverfd tijdens praktisch werk), waterbowlen en springtouwen met waterballonnen. Geweldig om de gezichten van de kinderen te zien, ze wilden overal bij helpen en waren enthousiast om alle spellen te doen. Vooral bij het gezichtverven. Dan denk je dat wij die kinderen een mooi plaatje geven. Maar ze waren veelste enthousiast om onze gezichten te verven, wat met uiterste concentratie gedaan werd.

Dan blijven alleen de zondag en de maandag nog over. Zondag gaan we weer naar de kerk, waar we ons drama mogen laten zien en we de zondagschool mogen leiden. Aan het einde van de dag gaan we uit eten met wat mensen als afscheidsdiner. Want maandagmorgen vertrekken we naar Ko Samet! Een eiland ongeveer 2 uur van Pattaya af, waar we met bus en boot zullen moeten komen. Hier aangekomen begint onze debriefing week. We zullen onze outreach gaan evalueren en ons ook weer klaarmaken voor thuiskomst. Wel gek allemaal hoor, maar we laten het lekker over ons heen komen en gaan heerlijk genieten van de laatste week in Thailand.

Our schedule for the last week:

-          3^rd of June: Church and goodbye diner

-          4^th of June: Leaving Pattaya – arriving in Ko Samet

-          7^th of June: Leaving Pattaya – arriving in Bangkok

-          7^th - 8^th of June: Enjoying the day in Bangkok hopefully with some friends we made there, we are staying at the YWAM base there.

-          8^th of June: In the evening we leave Bangkok by airplane and fly on our way back to Holland.

-          9^th of June: We will arrive at 11 hours in the morning at Schiphol.

Ko Samet here we come!

I write this on the day before we leave Pattaya. 2,5 weeks already has past since we arrived here and our time here is over. But first we will tell you what happened last week.

The day after our last blog was a real special day. Our team split up, one half went to ‘My Fathers House’ as usual on Saturday. The other half had the chance to go to a slumchurch. In Thai it is named: ‘The Church where the hearts come together’. The church is in the middle of a slum where volunteers of Mercy Center go to deliver food packages (something we helped with the past Tuesday and Thursday) but also living there to support the people. They gave us the freedom to add as much to the service as we wished. Eventually it came down to a sermon, we did the worship and lead the program for the children. The church is a small space in somebody’s backyard. They made it know to the people around that we would come, so there were about 15 people there of which 1/3 was non-christian. After we did our part en everything was translated, people had the chance to react. Eventually this led to the part where 3 people gave their lives to Christ! Amazing to experience something like this. The people were very serious about this and we could pray for them. God really used us that day to give the people who were doubting or needed hope, to give them this encouragement and extra push to really make a choice!

Luckily we also have time to recharge. Every Sunday we go to church. The Victory Church is being run by Pastor Fred and Dianne, they also lead the Mercy Center. Next to this we have worship and intercession every Wednesday, which is also being facilitated by the Victory Church. Last Wednesday we even did intercession for the city Pattaya. It was really powerfull, especially when we sang the song ‘Greater things have yet to come in this city’, because the song is written for Pattaya! By doing this we get encouraged every time how important intercession is and how we can make the way free for people doing all the good work.

The past week we were mostly at ‘My Fathers House’. In the morning doing practical work, but when the kids are home we make time to play with them or to help them with their homework. It is really comforting to see that this is really their home for them.

Saturday was our last day at ‘My Fathers House’, so we made a party out of it. We had a theme which was ‘a Fathers love’, we did craftswork, bought the kids some snacks, clowning, facepainting, biblestory about the prodigal son. We ended with a bang; a festival of games where the kids could go through as a team. We had chairdance with music, hopscotch (which we painted our selves), water bowling and jumprobe with waterballoons. Amazing to see the faces of the kids. Ofcourse they wanted to help with everything and they were so excited doing all the games. Especially the facepainting was a success. But in stead of us painting their faces, they were way more interested to paint our faces. Which was done with a great deal of concentration.

Then we only have the Sunday and the Monday left. Sunday we go to church again, where we are able to show our drama and can lead sundayschool. At the end of the day we go out to diner with some people we have met here as a going away party. Because Monday morning we leave for Ko Samet! An Iland around 2 hours away from Pattaya, were we go by bus and boat. When we arrive here our debriefing week will start. We will evaluate our outreach, but also look forward how it will be when we go home. It’s kind of crazy to think about all that already. But we will see how everything goes, but for now we are still going to enjoy our last week here in Thailand.
